| The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in Finland has made some plans that could amend some of its current laws that are applicable to online gambling. The new amendment would allow online poker players to claim back any loses they may have incurred during a game. The proposed legislation suggests that any player that loses money online while playing poker could get back their money from a number of places; the first would be the firm that is providing the online poker room. The second place to get your money back would be from the credit card company you used to pay the firm, or the final place would be from the person who won the game. According to the Helsingin Sanomat daily newspaper, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is planning that all foreign companies that run online poker rooms will eventually stop offering their services to people from Finland. The idea would be that these foreign companies would see Finnish players as too high a risk, as much of them do with American players. “The official claim is consumer protection and we feel that claim is unjustified,” said Sigrid Ligne who is the Secretary General for the European Gaming and Betting Association. “Why focus on Internet gambling when traditional land based offline gambling is being promoted in Germany?” Hopefully these new laws will pass sooner than later for all of the poker addicts of Finland. Then again here is another example of a government trying to control its population for their own benefit. |
